Los Alamos County in the US States of New Mexico has been named the healthiest US community. The announcement has been made in the US News 2020 Healthiest Communities rankings released Tuesday. The Healthiest Communities list has been prepared after the evaluation of almost 3,000 communities of the United States. The list has 500 healthiest communities. Parameters like health and were evaluated while making the list. Senior data editor for US News and World Report Deidre McPhillips said that it helps people and policy makers understand what needs to be done. This also lets people and public health experts understand where they are.
Delaware County near Columbus is the healthiest community among Ohio counties. It has an overall ranking of 16. Delaware County earned this ranking because of good health outcomes and good housing quality. Warren County near Cincinnati is the next in the queue with an overall ranking of 88. Medina County is among other Ohio counties that have featured on the list with an overall ranking of 108. It is worth mentioning that 2019 data was used for the ranking and therefore it did not reflect the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the report found that the Healthiest Communities in the list have 40 per cent lower cases of coronavirus. 20 out of 25 communities with the highest coronavirus cases have a Black population. McPhillips said that it is very important to include the coronavirus element as it touches every community. The ranking is based information obtained from sources including the US Centers for Disease Control. It was found that diabetes was prevalent in communities where residents did not engage in physical activity. When it comes to choosing where to live, people must consider these things before making a decision. They should whether it is a safe place to live and has easy access to healthy food. The data help local government to invest in the whole community in order to enhance the standard of living. This helps in building basic amenities like good schools and public transportation.
