Cloud Save was one of the most awaited features by Nintendo users, for a long time. It makes enough sense too, considering that people don’t want to start from the beginning when they come across crashes or when they change to another Nintendo device. Nevertheless, it seems that not all Nintendo game titles can make use of this service. GameInformer, a popular gaming-oriented website, has found out that Cloud Save does not work on some of the popular titles like Splatoon 2, Dark Souls Remastered, Dead Cells, FIFA 19 and NBA 2K19. In a follow-up email with Nintendo, the company has confirmed that the feature does not really work, nor will be enabled’ for certain titles.

In the official statement given to GameInformer, Nintendo says that “the vast majority of Nintendo Switch games will support Save Data Cloud backup. However, in certain games this feature would make it possible to, for example, regain items that had been traded to other players, or revert to a higher online multiplayer ranking that had been lost. To ensure fair play, Save Data Cloud backup may not be enabled for such games. To ensure that Save Data Cloud backups cannot be used to unfairly affect online multiplayer rankings, the feature will not be enabled in Splatoon 2”.

As it can be seen, Nintendo seems to be concerned about the impact of this cloud data on the multiplayer ranking systems and associated metrics. That having said, most gamers and critics are not convinced by this explanation from the gaming giant. It should be noted that the same feature is offered by Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation without limitations based on gaming titles. Most people have not understood why the Nintendo team can set up a method to limit the abuse of the feature instead of removing an entire title. The issue becomes worse since Cloud Save is a subscription feature as well.
