The B1.617.2 of Covid-19 is wreaking havoc in the world. The WHO recently named it as Delta variant. The variant was first found in India. It is said to be highly transmissible. This has become a major cause of concern for health authorities across the world. The variant is now dominant in the UK. The Public Health England or PHE said that the variant can increase the risk of hospitalization and called for ramping up the health infrastructure to deal with adversaries. Data show that the cases rose by over 5,400 in a week, pushing the tally beyond 12,000. The cases due to Delta are now closing in to surpass Alpha. The Alpha variant was first detected in the country’s Kent region.

The Health Department has suggested exercising caution as much as possible. It suggested to people to continue working remotely and follow Covid’s appropriate behavior. The authorities have asked the public to come forward for taking vaccine shots. Data show that majority of patients admitted to the hospital had not taken the vaccine. Bolton in North West has reported the highest cases of Delta variant. The PHE said that studies have found that two doses of vaccines are highly effective against the variant. The local authorities are taking measures to contain the spread. There are signs available that the transmission rate has fallen. However, they have urged people to remain alert as the country has started easing lockdown rules.

The health protection teams are working with local authorities to spread awareness about the Delta. Local teams of doctors and health are going door to door in Bolton. They are distributing test kits and spreading awareness. The teams are also encouraging people to come forward to take the vaccine. Besides, mobile testing units have been deployed and additional PCR tests are being done to detect cases early. The Delta variant is more transmissible than the previously found variants of Covid. It is somewhere 30 to 100 percent transmissible. Meanwhile, the government said that it will assess the impact of unlocking that started in the country on May 17.
